The birthday party was enormous. Over 1,500 people arrived ready to celebrate. They came by bus, by car, motorbike and some even walked. There was so much noise the neighbors wondered what it was all about. And what was it all about? God’s faithfulness these past 50 years to raise up the Wesleyan Evangelical Church in Brazil.  God took a missionary family from the Caribbean, joined by another to begin a new work in Brazil in 1961. When the first North American missionaries began in a needy neighborhood  in Manaus they began alone.  At the birthday party there were so many pastors I lost count!

The celebration lasted a week, beginning with a leadership conference and ending with several evangelistic services. Brazilians came from other states of Brazil to join in the celebration.  The area director, Jarvis Ferguson and Pastor Rigo Roberto from Costa Rica, both ministered to the church of Brazil.

But we are looking forward to new things.  The past 50 years have been full of God’s grace and blessing but the church wants to launch out to reach even more with the transforming power of the gospel.  With many coming forward at the services we sense that is has already begun.

Happy Birthday!  May the next 50 be even more blessed!
